Ferkovky

a podcast about pioneers of medicine & medical science delivered entirely in Slovak

I’ve been toying with an idea of starting a podcast for the past few years. I quickly realised that producing a good-quality material needs a little bit of thought behind it, and after trying several different formats, I settled on Ferkovky, a podcast entirely in my maternal language, Slovak, guiding listeners through the history of medical sciences, using key personalities as vehicles for the story.

The name, Ferkovky, derives from the first name of my grandfather, František or simply Ferko as we’d known him as. Ferkovky is a made-up work but basically means “podcast belonging to Ferko”. My grandfather, a paediatrician, was one of my best friends, always quick with a joke, always listening to classical music, always plotting another walk or an adventure. That’s how I remember him, and my time spent in his home filled with warmth and love fro his grandchildren.

Moreover, this podcast is also an homage to my parents, both doctors, and their fellow friends and colleagues in the field; people I grew up around, and who inspired me from my childhood. It is an image to all and every person in medicine and medical sciences. Your work and dedication to science and health of people on this planet is something I will always be eternally grateful for. You keep us moving. Thank you!
